The images in this section were taken by Dr. Alfred Schwartz of Brooklyn, NY. This is his personal work as a photographer and it is a treasure trove of images. Having taken custody of the collection in 2025, I am just now beginning to discover many of these fantastic prints. There are roughly 2,000 prints and another 1,500 slides in the collection. He is represented in the permanent collection of the Kodak Museum in Rochester, NY and his images have been shown in galleries and at exhibitions such as the 1979 curated show in the Parrish Art Museum in Southhampton, NY.

Alfred was a prolific photographer influenced by Sid Grossman and Lisel Model, both of whom were close friends. His work shows New York between the 1950s and 1980s. He was equally comfortable with people and street photography as with conceptualism and abstraction. The images take us back to a time of black & white scenes, long lost artifacts and situations–some comical, some serious– that all invoke strong emotion.
